I actually drove by this. There was so much smoke going over 31st you could barely see the road. i really hope everyone got out safely - since this was someones home. There was a car In the driveway so someone probably was there. Such a shame to say "let it burn".
I was sent to deliver in that area of the trailer park twice during the aftermath, when the equipment was still on-scene. I think the neighbors were trying to help them out by getting food for them. At first, I too thought the same thing (let it burn), but when I got there I saw people crying and hugging in the street, etc. I saw real, raw pain. I also realized in that same moment that no matter where they live or who they are, people are people...and according to the LJW, six real people lived there and got out safely, even though they lost everything they'd ever had. After I saw all that crap out there, I felt horrible. It took me less than a second to say 'let it burn', but it took me an entire evening and maybe more to realize how much things usually aren't as they seem at first glance.
I never want anyone to feel anypain...and I am sad that people are displaced...on the other hand..that trailer park is dirty, full of drug dealers and other criminals. It is NOT a suitable place for children, or adults for that matter. Let it burn and let their homeowners or rental insurance get these people in adequate housing, because that place is nothing but trouble.
Not everyone that lives there is a bad person or does drugs. I used to work with a very nice older lady that lives there. She is definitely not the type of person you described. A lot of ppl can't afford the high-priced living of Lawrence, so yes, a trailer might be all they can afford. Better to live @ a trailer park than be homeless, right? What If these people didn't have home/renters insurance bc they couldn't afford It?

That is a gross generalization you are making there. I am sure that not everyone there is dirty drug dealing criminals. Some people can't afford to live some place "nice" and are providing for their families the best that they can. Stop and think for a minute what it would be like to lose everything you own, this isn't all stuff that can be replaced by rental or homeowners insurance, this is memories, photographs, etc. Besides, even if insurance covers the loss from the fire, do you think they could suddenly afford to live somewhere better?
Chelsea are you kidding me? I've met many people from that park and yes some seem good and some seem bad, but that's not for you or me to decide. I would never wish a fire on someone so they can get 'adequate housing'. I mean come on! Six people in a trailer it was obviously a desperate situation to begin with. I understand your animosity towards the place in general but give these people a break! Yeah the place has a few bad apples, but trailer parks are cultural melting pots and you'll find gems among the scum. It may not be a good place to live but some folks got no choice, they just have to play the hand they're dealt.
and just as a side note- by grandparents lived in that trailer park for 20 years...it was clean, and people took pride in their trailers. whenI drove through there a couple of weeks ago i was amazed....so dirty, trash and junk evrywhere. Just because you have no money doesn't mean you can't keep a tidy yard. And Yes, I have lost everything I owned in a hurricaine before. you move on, with the help of the wonderful red cross, and your insurance. I came from a rough situation and through extremely hard work and dedication I bettered myself...but NEVER has empty 12 packs as curtains- like I saw at The Gaslight. And my yard has always been clean. you done just live the hand your dealt- you have so many ways to make a crappy hand a good one.
